Akwaeke Emezi awakened him eyessprungwide no small feat
                                                                       with Freshwater
she shared her book with him and within all her characters gods and goddesses  she introducing him to Igbo Africa religion mythology
Ala python mother ogbanjes spirits “children who come and go”

she conceived a beautiful exotic compound object two ogbanje  “. . . wrapped up in a strip of human hide” an iyi-uwa an object binding the spirit of a dead child to the world

its unknowing keeper is a little girl Ada who had to be a girl because if a boy  itd kill him  boys arent made of the stuff girls are nor men of women

when he realeyesed where Akwaeke Emezi had taken him he began Freshwater over reading it out loud
he had neglected to share it with his mother whod love it  reading it aloud he was sure shed hear
                                                                                               wherever she was

“. . . stuffed a god into a bag of skin”   couldnt possibly be more succinct
