early this morning right in that sweet
spot of where it may or may not have been someone calling him with bad news

it did make him get out of bed fiftysome
degrees windows open cold when yare
naked
he didnt rashly take the bait
hed let the machine do its job
it wasnt his machine
when his machine died he was content to not
have one his daughters were not they bought him the machine his youngest on her return north from
southern California where her sister lived actually stopped at his apartment
installed it and recorded the greeting It’s

recently it rang hangup then rang again no one there
hed been a collector
