he knew many people who displayed their pleasure with sighs or hmms as they ate  like children  utterly absorbedunembarrassed if someone were to point it out to them  he enjoyed their pleasure and was never the one who may have sought to belittle them for what purpose

                                                         however recently he attended at dinner party at a friends home  he heard it was ostentatious he hadnt been invited before an thought it odd  Wear a tie and jacket, please . .

he wore the requested  others wore sharp suits a few dressed in tuxedos 

he was seated across an enormous table white linen lit table candelabras china silver their kitchen was run by a chef dinner served by waiters hed remind himself to never do this again  he was seated across from a gentleman who throughout dinner while not sighing or hmming declared the delicacydeliciousness of each course by sharply averting his eyesleft wait  wait    wait for it then sharply avert his eyesright  perhaps twothree times every course  he did not engage in conversation during his shifty eyes despite on more than one occasion he carried the weight of the discussion  

he  was   fascinated

when dinner was over the ladies adjourned to a parlour  the gentlemen went outdoors onto a broad tiled veranda that overlooked gardens fountains sculptures and acres of lawn for brandy and cigars So this kind of stuff actually happens he thought  hed remind himself if asked again to decline 

                                                         he listened to differing conversations subject matters volleys as he walked between clutches although he didnt spend enough times in them to form an opinion 

                                                                                                he was far tooinvolved with the Cuba cigar he savoured also he had opted for Irish whiskey the waiter excused himself when he returned he carried a single leadcrystal tumbler on the silver serving tray the whiskey threw a caramelcoloured halo on it the tumbler had a fantastic weight  it was pleasurable in its own right

he kept to himself

at the partys conclusion he thanked his friends

                                                  Did you have a good time? Some people remarked you proved elusive.

I had a fine evening it was exquisite literally a once-in-a-lifetime event Thank you very much for the invitation

to his disappointment he wasnt able to get the gentleman to a side and ask him about his eyes

he has a huge male tabby

he was sired by a feral tornup tabby who was torturedhis tail broken cutoff if praying worked hed pray that he could get his hands on whoever mistreated Robert he called him Robert short for Robert Redford his indoor feral took a shine to him Robert would come up on the front screen door and spray He aint no Robert Redford baby

                                                                                                he had to go out of town  asked a friend to please stop and care for her  october  and indie  another feral he took in seven years prior  his friend wasnt savvy  october got out

                              hence Bomber  also hence shy and leftie  theyre girls

Bomber has a thing for all things he enjoyshandles and caresses  his books his old glass bottles pens shells bones sperm whale teeth

                   but Bomber really has a thing for a piece of white shale that is shaped like a sperm whale which he keeps atop his highboy cradled on a bookend  immediately inside the bookend is a 1930 illustrated by Rockwell Kent edition of Moby Dick

Bomber and indie relate to him as a fellow male

                                                  when he goes to sleep at nightwhen he says goodnight to each of his cats they often beat him to bed

they sleep together

occasionally the girls will join them and on a rare occasions the queen october also joins them

                                                                                                     years earlier he gifted his daughter a gravity blanket  he called her one winter evening to let her know that he should have given her his cats  Theyd sleep on top of you  Youd have your gravity blanket

                                                               AwDad, you are so thoughtful, so sweet Here it comes he thought but you know, I don’t have to feed my blanket.  she had a good point  anhe was terribly grateful she didnt bring up cleaning cat boxes   she let him off easy

however Bomber really has a thing for his white shale sperm whale and usually in the middle of the daysometimes night whenever it strikes his fancy hell jump up onto the dresser and get the whale in his mouthjump down and hide it then he has to wait for Bomber to forget himself and begin batting it around on the carpet in order for him to find it tell Bomber NO and put it back on the bookend

                                         LET THE GAME BEGIN . . AGAIN

Bomber was tireless

fortunately he was equally tireless

they exercised each other

if it wasnt for his ministrationscaring for his cats hed wonder who was whos pet
