                 he finally got to hunker down and get into Hofstadters Anti-Intellectualism in American Life

won the Pulitzer for Non-Fiction in 1964

sixty years later still apropos

what he enjoyed were Hofstaders copious footnotes

                                                        was gaga for footnotes

also why David Foster Wallace enthused him

the obscure that lurked in them were very appealing

and yet despite their obscurity their words continue to ring vibrantly true

for one never truer than today
