I sipped my beer


    when the beverages were gone they adjourned indoors ostensibly to replenish them
though the two walked on shaky unsure legs

they were drinking a local chardonnay

handing them their glasses he told them the bottle was a dead
                                                                   he doubled back to the frig for a beer
returning to the livingroom held up his bottle

Na Zdrowie. eversodrunkengently tapped their glasses and to his bottle 
                                                                                 they sipped



through the patio screen he heard a hawk cry
                                                 Say Excuse me  Im going out to see the hawk

he went out the screen door  down the porch steps

the hawk turned lazycircles over his head  a huge redtail
                                                             she or he turned a good ten minutes before breaking off suddenlytaking a line over the tops of live oaks  gliding out of sight

always a thrill

    was a nice sunny  day


he went up the steps back into the livingroom

they had set their glasses on the coffee table and fallen asleep

he polished off his beer  left
