No thanks he spoke into the reflection off the microwave
door he had no idea microwaves were that
big Give me what artichoke you will an
Ill boil it the oldfashioned way on top the stove
The microwave works;
the nutrients don’t leech out as when you boil it.
Knock yourself out I
prefer boiled Ill enjoy mine in good
time
The microwave
works, I’m telling you.
Youve told me I
hear youheard you loud and clear Which
artichoke would be mine
he got the water
going on and began paring the artichoke What are you doing? Prepping the
artichoke I haven’t seen that
before. Yare kiddin me though now you have I’ll wait on my artichoke for you. No don knock yourself out
he counted how many
times he knocked himself out
pulling the artichoke out of the
microwave he plucked a leaf tried it he
tugged on it with his front teeth it was
tough putting it back into the
microwave he said It’s tough.
I can see
You got to make a
face? I could have eaten it with my molars, if I wanted to.
Ifya want Sounds nuts
I have on occasion.
As I said ifya
want but that doesnt make any sense to me
Boiling the hell
out of . .
. . When
you were a kid thats how it was cooked anya ate it
I was a child; now
we know bett . .
. . You know better
I know better, yes,
I know better. I’d rather enjoy all the nutrients now, because I can use a microwave.
Look at it however
youd like Im content eating in forty minutes Boiling it isnt as labor-intensive as microwaving it
That the fourth time you put it back in
I’m not counting.
I am Its the fourth time he watched him tug at it then he went after
it with his molarshe wasnt going to concede Yamight wanna put it back in It doesnt seem its done
It’s tough; I think
it’s the artichoke.
I think its you
he put it back into
the microwave two more times
he could understandgot that wrong he saw how many meals and vegetables were for the microwave at the
market he conceded the
convenience but convenience didnt play
in his life he loved the process the selection
of ingredients the preparation seasoning how the foodthe kitchen smelled better and better as the meal cooked he liked how his belly growledanticipating a meal
he would have
preferred eatingsharing dinner with another but that wasnt often in the cards he always played the cards he was dealt
his artichoke was
tender he dipped every third or fourth
leaf in butter he scooped the choke out
cut the heart into quarters dropped a quarter in slathered it with melted
butter
when he finished he
almost was spot-on with the butter just
a little left bits of artichoke in it he tipped the bowl to his mouth and sipped
the last of the butter he licked the
bowl
You made that look
obscenely good.
I would have been happy
to share
No. I had mine.
It was tough
It was; you got the
better of the two artichokes.
Apparently
it was no fun beating a dead horse
