there was a fascinating exchange of ideas yesterday at a day-long conference on countering violent extremism held by the Hudson Institute a conservative think tank(whose initial 1961 stated Mission was:
To think of the future in unconventional means that Mission now: Promoting American leadership and global engagement for a secure, free, and prosperous future(whose security freedom and prosperity – or does the American leadership bit imply Americas -- to hell with other countries )
he ought shaddupbe happy the Institute retained at the very least the noun future thats somethingright
David Petraeus who ought to be in jailhis crime exceeded Chelsea Mannings(and Ms Manningif it is necessary to recall – not that he has to be reminded -- was imprisoned for seven years(lets not talk about being held naked in solitary confinement)(lets not talk about her continuing to be castigatedchastised) – though he loved the counterargument: Petraeus was a generalManning a private first class(as if military rank is distinct and reveals ones individual mores or morals -- Manning was motivated by what she saw were deliberate injustices while Petraeus was just deliberate motivated by sexho hum)
Petraeus reflecting on his Iraqi surge remarked This is a generational struggle . . we need to have a strategy that is sustainable in terms of the expenditure of blood and treasure(it wasnt lost on him that blood preceded treasureohno ho hum)
Steve Bannon(?)(who should have been jailed for physically abusing his wife – that counterargument: it was his wifeho hum) was another speaker at the conference(?)
Bannons remarks refuted Petraeus (N)obody in the United States . . wants to be engaged in combat operations, special forces operations, drone operations (for multiple generations)
he said Petraeus was too focused on nation building We have to build a nation called the United States of America The way you can have Pax Americana is if we’re a robust and strong society ourselves, not trying to impose our way of life and our beliefs on other people
hmmm he thought what Bannon meant to say was our White way of life and our White Christian beliefs
if he wasnt mistaken isnt that imposing
Bannon also saidkeeping up with the impositions I believe we’re trying to impose a liberal democratic system on a society that clearly to me doesn’t seem to want it
Now correct me if Im wrong he thought I have no doubt that Bannon also feels imposed upon by the same American liberal democratic system
he would rather have read something more in line with Hudsons historical unconventional ideas
