exiting Salinas California

                     you remember your history Steinbeck Of Mice and Men The Red Pony The Pearl pull up your pants cinch your belt East of Eden James Dean Porsche 550 Spyder the deadly Chlomane crash U. S. Route 446

1313 hours  on the road(Kerouac) again out of Salinas  could you imagine Salinas as terminus for a visit or living there

1314  you enjoyed entering it  however enjoyed it more immediately as possible exiting it

1315  you enjoyed the architecture of old town  although most of it has been neglected unmaintained  which is dismal  it reveals a simmering disrespect of itself 

in its heyday you probably wouldnt have thought twice or minded that Salinas was your trails end

1319  you exited Salinas in a mad rush pushing down eucalyptus trees that barred your way you didnt mean them any harm they groaned made wisecracks threw dust and yellow pollen then toppled over pointing their gnarled roots bizarre elongated toes up into the air

I didnt mean any harm you apologised  I didnt mean any harm any more than a motorist who runs over mangles squirrels skunks raccoons opossums cats and dogs(forever bound) hawks owls motorists who are oblivious of the gore and death they leave in their wake

exiting Salinas

1329  you remember then you brought your library card with you anxious to visit the John Steinbeck Library but worried it and Cesar Chavez and El Gabilan Libraries might be closed for lack of funding  you remembered they were threatened shuttering after having been consistently devalued during the three-year lead-up to the crisis which would have rendered Salinas Steinbecks birthplace the largest city in America without a public library

what might Steinbeck have thought of the store of books and memorabilia kept under his names auspice or imprimatur was closed failed denied

would he have thought unAmerican

1343  long exited Salinas and wending your way Furthur on a bus(Kesey) to San Jose

you knew it would have been unAmerican

but theres been a lot of unAmerican things happening in America

a lot of things trying to be normalised that are not normal and are returned to time and time again in brazen hope that their reiteration braying sullied mantra will finally tip the scale to acceptance  a childs belief process who throws a tantrum because the thing knows its parents have vowed not to spank them and if they maintain their shrill and volume they will eventually get them their way

however in their obtuse greed they do not recognise other parents closing in who have not forsworn physical discipline

Its either you or me they tell the childs parents
