I was lost for a word
then I dreamt it last night
I dreamt of text all night long
reams and reams of words
not clinging to a page
ribbons of words
sheets of words
figures of words
words startled like a murder of
crow out of a green cornfield
words falling like rain
scribbling like snowflakes on a
black night
words pouring out onto the soaked
ground gathering in puddles at the mouth of a gutter downspout
I recant
Im not at all sure
that they were words
maybe only letters
formed nonsense cmneww wndoymt anane
nrpndsj
coiled on red sand like a viper
they lunge at me
Im too slow
no rattled warning
their fangs penetrated my
forearm and through its transparent
head I watched
v-e-n-o-m pumped
into my arm from the sacs on either side of its head
after envenoming me
it drops off and sidewinders its
way
across the trough of a sand dune
wave
I can feel words winding
through my veins
working their way up my arm
shoulder neck
through my carotid artery into
my skull and Scream over my brain
I feared they were going to
cause an embolism
they ran behind my eyes and
then into the sponge of my brain
where they shed their husks and
laid like meat with words already there
woven into
the fabric
I
am
from out of my ears their
useless extraneous syllables fell
I dreamt of words
