a shrieking chimp
pounds its chest snarls
bares its canines
forgetting
its in a tree
posturing
he never could goad one down to
level ground
to stand across from him
in harms way
their outlandish gibberish never
failing to distract them from the obviousness of that reality
his reality
he went so far as to walk up to
the tree trunk and grasp it
only to have the crying ape
ascend recede even higher into its crown
higher and higher shaking the
ambient limbs even wilder
and in his minds eye
hed
imagine a beam snap its fury choking stuck spastic in its throat as it plummeted
spinning and cartwheeling to
his feet
he wouldnt waste any energy to
bend and use his fists
hed stomp it despite his deep
reticence to use his feet or kick
stomp
stomp
its muzzle and snot
stomp its snapping jaws with
his heeled black boots
stomp it senseless
so later
assuming consciousness again
it could drag itself back up into
its backstabbing tree and struggle nurse
its busted
swollen lips and face
trying hard not to see itself
in a staringglass
that would desperately breech
its feelings and pride
whatever pride a treehopping
cringing ape can attain at altitude deliberate above the fray
maybe thered be
one
less
one less inclined to snort and shriek safely
from afar
