Father Maurice welcomed them into the firstfloor private study in the rectory

they brought wine

not to be consecrated

imbibed shared
                   Father enjoyed sweet reds

he knew the two women since they were young

he chuckled when one handed him the wine in a brown bag
Shall we leave it in the bag and pass it around, back and forth?

he was renown for his wicked sense of humor

it was probably a good thing

as he slipped the bottle from the bag What have we here?

Oh my, you shouldn’t have.

Father. We know you enjoy sweet reds we, unfortunately, aren’t familiar and the young man at the liquorstore recommended it.

Did you happen to tell him who you were sharing it with?

No.

That’s unfortunate . . . although . when I relate this I will.  It’ll knock ‘em dead.
                                                                                     Thank you very much.
You’re welcome, Father.

If you’ll please excuse me, be seated, I’ll uncork the wine.

he walked over to a massive credenza hunkered beneath a bank of glorious stained glass windows
one looked at the other  What is it?
I don’t know. He recommended it. We were running late. I paid the man and left.

six crystal goblets stood on a silver platter he remove three opened the wine smelled the cork nodded approvingly

returning he set the platter on the coffee table between them  the wine label facing them
                                                                                               smiling said
This ought to be interesting.
