Vehicle

passing out through the grocerys sliding glass doorsturning right he nearly unearthed and toppled a silverhaired woman

he grabbed her by the shoulder to right her  and in doing so woke her from her somnolence or placating reveries  she didnt appear to be in the Here and Now

Excuse me he mutteredhe didnt deliver it in the form of an apology

if he hadnt grabbed her she would have walked blindly into him and found herself dropped on her skinny ass  or well-dressed expensively-dressed  skinny   ass

Oh  Oh
a dog had more sense to protest

Youre fine
he let go of her shoulder
she seemed stable
Have a good day
as he walked away he tossed a glance over his shoulder

she had turned right and stood facing the car glass-sparkling parking lot at the front of the grocery

he looked away

walking on he considered that the woman definitely needed some help with her make-up

she had deep furrows that etched themselves to either side of her face from the corners of her mouth to her jaw

he couldnt put down or escape his thought that she was a ventriloquists doll  or dummyshe certainly moved dummyish woodenfooted  lethargic

she felt hard stickish where he grabbed her at the shouldergripping all cloth and nothing else
and quite frankly her movementin the glance he had to recognise her persontheir imminent collision she moved as if she were propel by something other than herself
he could fancy someone had their fist up her ass directing her cadence and absorbing her complete and horrified attention  or possession were the elderly doing hallucinogenic drugs

into the next parking lot over across the long entryway that bisected the city lot into two discernable venues he glanced back

she wasnt there

she was motile and either had entered the store where he thought she was heading or had crossed into the parking lot and was inside a car  and hidden he couldnt see her

he didnt hold his glance into a gaze

she was gone

Ah
but where was the ventriloquist that violated herworked his fingers inside of herspoke the words she moved her wooden powdered mouth to

                  he or she intrigued him

how many people were their puppets
how many had they violated unwillingly

                            willingly

some people can be lead like sheep
some people were comfortable handing off their reinsdoing as they were told  easily incited  persuaded
                                                                                    or cajoled
by secrets they vehemently preferred remain secret

this took “getting into ones head” into new territory(or terroritory)  or upped the ante for “taking it in the ass”(not that there anything was wrong with that – properly lubed)

he would have spent more time pondering her if it hadnt been for a grasshopper who launched itself onto the rear panel of a black Cadillac Escalade  it mottled its carapace and extremities like a squid seeking to camouflage itself as the car idled at a traffic light

Better jump down from off there friend  Cant say the claws to your tarsi and pulvilli are up to the task of holding on paint at 35 40 miles an hour or that your wings wont tear free if you deploy them in a last-ditch effort to save yourself
(he was all for earthlings)  Youre really not in a good situation

the light changed

the fifth squirrel he picked up off the street was the straw that broke the camels backbroke his back

it was just a youngster scrawny  hadnt put on any masculine husk

its skull was cracked head slightly misshapen  a dull pool of coagulated blood waxed under its head and shoulder
a sticky black tar
curiously it seems all things if dying not murdered straight away assume the fetal positionreturn to the womb enter death as they entered life

he paused a moment standing in the middle of the street  then he squatted and picked it up gently(with reverence) both hands by its midsection

rigor mortise held it taut like a stick
even its bushytail didnt unfurl   which squirrels are known fortheir twitching tails along with their raucous laughter(Please  whats the joke?!) infernal harpingchiding  seemingly quick tempered
their wry ability to belittle

his first and fifth squirrels remained distinguishable when he gathered them up and laid them to the side of the road
in the grass under tree shade

the squirrels in between were so badly mangled that it was only their comparative size that could attest they were squirrels  that and the last tuffs of tail hair that waved like pitiful pennants  flags of surrender

he was saddenededging on despondent

the speed limit was 25 miles an hour

the street was winding vehicles parked at either edgeand some of them not parked wellangled or parked into the street
there were no kerbs no sidewalks  signs at either end of it entering the street at the intersections warned SLOW  Children at Play   and yet more often than he cared he yelled at oncomingpassing vehicles  SLOW DOWN!
some jokesters veered at himhe didnt give ground and many more smeared their faces with disdain and
enthusiastically flipped him off as they lurched by

these days  life is cheapits apparent

real death happens only to human beings

why slow down for an animala lesser being  because you have some fucking place to be and it seems everyone behind the wheel had to be there soonertoo pressing Everyone GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY! because its their waytheir life we impede  gawdforbid  Its your world man Im just trying to live in it

he went home

he went into the backyard down to the mulch pit and took a loose reused brick off top its retaining wall and walked back up to the porch

he put the brick into his cloth bookbag that he wore slung over his shoulder as he walked and read

he went into the house and from the closet in his studio he grabbed ahold of a police billyclub he took off a cop who was beating a woman protestor senseless in Chicagos Grant Park  because the cop wore a riot helmet he smashed his leg with the club on the side of his kneethat was quite the scream  then he smashed his right elbow another quite the scream  it gurgled into crying  he paid as much attention to the cops crying as the cop paid attention to the womans pleas

he put the billyclub in the bag next to the brick

and smiled

and out of nowhere as he walked down to the street book in hand bag hanging off his shoulder he heard an old high school cheer in his ears  Give me an A  A!  Give me a C  C!  Give me a T  T!  Give me an I  I!  Give me an O  O!  Give me an N  N!  WHATS THAT SPELL  ACTION!  WHATS THAT SPELL  ACTION!  WHATS THAT SPELL  ACTION!  GIVE EM ACTION BOYS! YAAaaahhh!   no more SLOW DOWN!
hed see if cars could stop in time for a brick lobbed into the streettimed to meet their windshields   and perhaps their faces behind them
