Ya do whaya got to do

last night he set an alarm  an alarming clock

he hadnt set one since last year

couldnt remember for what

he could however

                      remember setting alarms since he was a boy delivering newspapers

he had to get up in the morning for school

might as well make some scratch going into the day

                                                           he was compelled

by the necessity to buy what clothes he wantedwhat books he wantedwhat records he wantedwhat liquor he wanted  on account of his ability to convince someone twentyone years old  or older  to buy him and his Irish twin  who  when they returnedlaughed at them until they revealed baseball bats they had concealed in the weeds along the parking lots chain link fence No booze No headlights possibly  No knees

which is what it was like to contend with two headstrong boys

he set alarms from then until recently virtually every day

                                                             typically 5AM  except weekends

after he quit his paper route of ten years

Nah

        Was making ends meet

Ya do whaya got to do

Did you ever hurt anybody in the parking lot

 

 

Thas not a question to ask after I  just   said
